All I want for Christmas

What’s on your children’s Santa list this Christmas? If it’s a new iPad, or hand held gaming console it’s good to ensure that your child’s overuse of it doesn’t cause posture concerns. Limiting time on the iPad is a struggle for parents, and this story has some great tips for proper posture and time limits for when your child is using a tablet.

In the story, Dr Mario Stefano speaks to Ten Eyewitness News Adelaide about encouraging parents to give gifts for Christmas that promote exercise and being active, and to avoid technological presents that cause bad posture. Chiropractors are warning parents about the health dangers of too much time spent gaming on a tablet, ipad or phone and are urging them consider Christmas presents that encourage exercise.

Chiropractic Central to attend Parker Conference

las_vegas_welcomeaTara and I are off to Las Vegas next January! No, this is not a blog post boasting about our upcoming  holiday (although we will have a week of R&R) as we will both be attending the Parker Experience.

One of the world’s largest chiropractic conferences, The Parker Experience will enhance our knowledge and go through some of the latest research in Chiropractic and ultimately this will benefit our patients.  Both Tara and I highly value ongoing education and growing both personally and professionally.

The event is loaded with practical tools and inspiration and we will come back to Sydney full of renewed energy and insight.

Founded in 1951 by James W. Parker, DC, The Parker Experience was developed by Dr Parker whose idea for conferences came from the combination of his chiropractic skills and his innate ability to recognise the need to continually educate those in this ever-growing field. His vision encompassed two very important objectives: to improve the chiropractor and to better the chiropractic profession.

Parker Seminars is a world-renown organisation with a longstanding reputation of excellence. They hold three North American and one international seminar each year at various locations throughout the world. Parker Seminars is the largest gathering of chiropractic professionals in the chiropractic industry and attracts thousands of attendees throughout the United States and 20 other countries that seek the latest technologies and innovations to catapult their practice to the next level.

Spinal Health: Get Healthy At Work

Is your spine happy at workA recent media release from the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia congratulates the NSW Government and WorkCover for getting serious about spinal health through the Get Healthy at Work initiative.

In the media release, CAANSW President and Chiropractor Dr John de Voy said:

“Office workers spend a lot of time sitting in the same position for extended periods which not only effects their posture, causes spinal degeneration and joint inflammation, but it impacts their ability to perform basic skills such as walking, running and standing. It’s important for employers to encourage their staff to take regular break to get up and stretch, even if it’s for a few minutes.”

We have been visiting quite a few workplaces this year with our Lunch and Learn sessions, spreading the message of sitting right and moving periodically for better spinal health.

Recent blog posts have shared great tips on ensuring that if you do sit at a desk at work, that you are minimising this impact on your body. Please check out our previous blog posts for some inspiration and real strategies you can implement today:

NSW Businesses urged to take care of their workers spinal health

Excerpt: The Chiropractors’ Association of Australia (CAANSW) has applauded the NSW Government and WorkCover for launching the Get Healthy at Work initiative aimed at reducing chronic disease in the workplace.

CAANSW has worked hard to raise the issue of spinal health in the workplace, with studies showing Australian office workers face a back pain epidemic and risk developing chronic diseases by sitting for almost 16 hours a day.

A study by the Association found Australian workplaces were not doing enough to encourage their workers to take breaks, with 75 per cent of people saying they either don’t have recommendations in their workplace for taking breaks from their computers/desks or they were not aware of any recommendations in their workplace for these types of breaks.
